Bell Ringer: Journal 46 - Given the fact that presidential elections in the U.S. are dominated by the two main political parties, is a voter "throwing away" their vote if they vote for a minor party candidate?

Class Assignment:

           Divide the class into small groups. Ask each group to discuss why political competition in the United States is primarily restricted to just two political parties, whereas many other nations have flourishing multi-party systems. Next, each group should develop a plan of three specific reforms to the American political system that would encourage a system in which three or more parties would be regularly competitive for Congress and the presidency.
