Aim: How were the 1964 Civil Rights Act passed? What were the effects of the civil rights movement on other minority groups' struggles for equality?

Bell Ringer: Civil disobedience is defined as the willful but nonviolent breach of unjust laws. How might this be applied in today’s political climate? Let's discuss. (10 min)

Objectives: 

16.4  Describe the circumstances under which the 1964 Civil Rights Act was passed and its evolving interpretation in subsequent Supreme Court decisions.

16.5 Evaluate the effect of the civil rights movement on other minority groups’ struggles for equality.

3. Review Journal 105 and 106

CIVIL RIGHTS ACT TITLES 1-11 ASSIGNMENT

*Assign three students to summarize how the civil rights movement affected other minority groups.

4. Journal 107 - Evaluate the effect of the civil rights movement on the following minorities: Native Americans, immigrant groups, Americans with disabilities.

*The remainder of the students are to research the eleven titles of the Civil Rights Act of 1964

*There are eleven titles of the Civil Rights Act. Prepare a summary  of the title assigned to you. Be ready to present your research to the class.

*As each group presents, complete journal 108. Your Journal 108 should have eleven sections.
